Tips n' Tricks; The Different Techniques of Contouring and Highlighting




There are 6 kinds of basic face shapes which are heart, long, round, oval, triangle and the last but not least square. Every single shapes has different techniques on how to contouring and highlighting.
For contouring, it has to use two matte colors darker than the skin tone and two colors lighter for highlighting.
Here are some celebrities face shapes and techniques to achieve the ideal face shape. 

1.) HEART
Celebrity: Amanda Seyfried

CONTOUR:
1. FOREHEAD
Apply darker shade around the left and right of the forehead side.
2. CHEEK
Apply downward just a little bit to enchance the cheek bones.

HIGHLIGHT:
1. FOREHEAD
Dab light color shade on the center of the forehead.
2. CHEEK
Apply highlighter under the eyes and pull downward to the side of the nose.
3. JAW
Apply highlighter on both side of jaw line start from under the ear lobs towards the under of the darker contour shade and blend it down.


2.) LONG
Celebrity: Jena Malone

Jena Malone

CONTOUR:
1. FOREHEAD
Apply darker shade on the outer of the face line and a little bit on top the center of the forehead to make it looks smaller. Make sure to blend it well with the hair lines.
2. CHEEK
Press  the hollow under the cheeks to find the cheek bones line.
Make a line from the ear to the outer of the mouth line.

HIGHLIGHT:
1. FOREHEAD
Dab highlighter basicly on the middle of the forehead and blend with the darker shade.
2. CHEEK
Apply highlighter on top of the contour line outward. Blend any harsh lines.
3. JAW
Dab lighter color on the chin.


3.) OVAL
Celebrity: Jessica Alba

CONTOUR:
1. FOREHEAD
Apply thin dark shade onto the outter face and blend onto the hair lines.
2. CHEEK
Apply slightly thin dark shade under the apples of the cheeks starting from the center of the ear straight to the lips line, but not too near. Using a clean blending brush / sponge, blend upward and downward.
3. JAW
Sweep or blend downward from under the ear lobs to the chin. Blend any harsh stokes downward to the neck area.

HIGHTLIGHT:
1. FOREHEAD
Dab lighter shinny shade onto the center of the forhead.
2. CHEEK
Apply the highlighter under the eyes area upward.
3. CHIN
Dab on the center of the chin.


4.) TRIANGLE
Celebrity: Reese Witherspoon

CONTOUR:
1. FOREHEAD
Apply darker shade only at both side of the outter face and blend out to hair lines to make it looks more natural.
2. CHEEK
Apply thinly again and again to build the shade onto the cheekbones from middle of ear downward only until under the apple of the cheeks. Blend downward.

HIGHLIGHT:
1.  FOREHEAD
Highlight on the center of the forehead and blend up to near the hair line.
2. CHEEK
Apply under the eyes outward up following the eye line.
3. CHIN
Dab on the middle of the chin.


5.) SQUARE
Celebrity: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

CONTOUR:
1. FOREHEAD
Apply darker shade around the outter side of the face, not side only. Apply a little bit inward to make the forehead looks smaller.
2. CHEEKS
By pressing the hollow on cheeks area, we’re gonna find the cheekbones. Start drawing thin line with brush on the marked part.
Sweep the brush or sponge on the line inward.  Blend any harsh line.
3. JAW
Starting from under the ear lobs, sweep the brush along the jaw line to under the chin. Do the same on the other side. With clean brush, blend with the contour cheeks part to make it more natural.

HIGHLIGHT:
1. FOREHEAD
Dab a little bit of lighter shade on the center of the forehead.
2. CHEEKS
Apply light shade only under the eyes and blend.
3. CHIN
Dab and blend lighter shade on to the middle of the chin.


6.) ROUND
Celebrity: Jennifer Lawrence

CONTOUR :
1. FOREHEAD
Apply dark shade color on the outer line of the forehead. Brush or blend lightly near the hair lines to give a natural look.
2. CHEEKS
Find the right place of the cheek bones by pressing the hollow under the cheek bones.
With the right dark shade color, apply it on the center of the temple, brush facing downward along the cheek bones and a little bit on the smile line. Started with a thin but quick strokes to build the shades.
After the shade looks define, blend any harsh line to make it appears more natural.
3. JAW
Starting under the ear lobs, apply dark shade color downwards pulling toward the jaw line.
Blend any harsh line and also blend upward to the contour cheek bones are just to give a more natural look.

❤ HIGHLIGHT:
1. FOREHEAD
Dab highlighter on the center of the forehead
2. CHEEK
Find the top of the cheekbones and apply brighter color ( idealy 2 colors lighter than skin tone). Brush outward.
With the clean brush or sponge, blend any harsh line between the highlight and contour place.
3. JAW
Apply highlighter on the center of the chin( under the mouth) and blend along on the top of the jaw lines.
